Rugged One Bag Solution for Daily Carry + Travel Due to its weatherproof design and big main pocket, the Everyman Hideout Pack is a one-bag option for individuals who require a daily backpack that can also be used for travel, exercise, and commuting.
One of the notable characteristics of the Hideout is its split front zipper, which makes it simple to pack and unpack clothing and equipment and provides several access points to the main area.
We will examine every element in this in-depth Everyman Hideout review so that you can decide whether or not this bag is ideal for you.
Materials and Construction
The Hideout Pack’s main material is PU lined 1680D Ballistic Nylon, which is water resistant. High tensile strength and excellent anti-abrasive qualities are two benefits of ballistic nylon. It is also a fabric with a reputation for being water-resistant and holding up well in the rain.
For added abrasion and moisture protection, the bottom is composed of waterproof PVC.
The Hideout Pack’s overall design was intended to help keep moisture out. If you’re looking for a fully waterproof backpack, keep in mind that while the majority of the materials used are water repellent or waterproof, the zippers are not.
Speaking of zippers, Everyman uses a thick zipper in each of the backpack’s exterior pockets. Although they are not the smoothest zippers we have encountered, the majority of the zippers seem smooth and durable enough to withstand daily use.
This backpack feels quite durable all over. It feels like an old-school military duffel because of its barrel form. You know, the kind of bag you want to just toss into a truck’s open bed.
What Fits Inside the Everyman Hideout Pack?
At only 24 liters the Everyman Hideout Pack could fit a surprisingly large amount of gear after packing it for different situations (EDC, Travel and Gym.)
We made sure the backpack could be zipped shut when fully packed and only left the bag open in the photos so that you could see what it looks like when packed inside.
Pockets and Compartments
Everyman has done a fantastic job of including numerous exterior pockets with easy access. There are three exterior pockets altogether. The first two pockets can be found on the top of the backpack’s lid. One is soft-lined and perfect for holding delicate items like glasses or a phone.
The next top pocket is significantly bigger. With room to spare, we were able to fit a bluetooth speaker and a case for sunglasses within this pocket. You can remove the removable clip from the key leash that is located within this compartment. We would want to see more backpack manufacturers use the detachable clip because it is a good addition.
With its extremely smart 3-way zipper “split front” design, the Everyman Hideout Pack offers several ways to reach the goods within. We discovered that there are three ways to reach the main compartment: top loading, duffel-style, and complete “split front” access.
The last compartment is the TSA-friendly laptop compartment located in the rear where you’ll find a felted wool laptop sleeve and separate tablet sleeve.
The entire laptop compartment is raised up from the bottom of the bag. This means that your laptop is protected from hitting the ground if dropped. This is a small detail many backpack brands miss, but Everyman did a great job with the laptop compartment’s design here.
What Fits Inside the Everyman Hideout Pack?
After filling it for various situations, the Everyman Hideout Pack, which only has 24 liters, could fit an unexpectedly huge number of gear (EDC, Travel and Gym.)
When completely packed, we made sure the backpack could be closed with a zipper; we only left the bag open in the pictures so you could see what it looked like.
The Everyman Hideout Pack can fit:
- Large Packing Cube (17.5” x 12.75” x 3.25”)
- Medium Packing Cube (13.75” x 9.75” x 3”)
- Small Packing Cube (11” x 6.75” x 3”)
- Gym Shoes (Men’s Size US 12)
- Weight lifting belt
- Toiletries Bag (10″ x 6″ x 4”)
- Small Towel
- Jump Rope
- 32oz Nalgene Bottle (inside laminated mesh pocket)
The Hideout Pack’s comfort features have been kept quite simple by Everyman. The shoulder straps include thick padding and are cushioned with permeable foam. When the backpack becomes heavy, the padded straps are a huge comfort help.
The Hideout Pack does include a chest strap that rides on the shoulder strap webbing. The chest strap positioning can be adjusted as needed or removed all together.
You won’t find your typical molded foam/mesh back panel with the Hideout Pack as it shares its padding with the laptop compartment right behind it.
If you want a backpack that is functional for both daily usage and travel, the Everyman Hideout Pack is a terrific option. The robust design and water-resistant materials really stand out.
When we tested the internal capacity, we discovered that the 24 liter capacity is actually much larger than we initially imagined, thanks to its distinctive barrel form. At first, we thought this was fairly modest for a backpack that would also be used for travel. You have several entry points to the main compartment thanks to the split front zipper, so you can easily get what you need.
